Originally from the USA, it was purchased near Parma (Ostellato) in ‘scrap’ condition by the collector Adorni in 1991.
Restoration involved completely rebuilding several parts including the engine, the mudflaps, and the water cooling radiator.
In 1993, after more than 800 hours of work, repairs were completed and the tractor was put on display for the first time at the EIMA exhibition in Bologna, at the GAMAE stand.
This tractor was primarily intended for ploughing and for America’s vast expanses.
In fact, this is evident in the special attention paid to designing and building a tractor that can partially operate with no driver on board.
The figures below, which are taken from the tractor’s operating manual, describe the special device used for controlling the steering.
In practice, it consisted of two discs that were placed in the furrow created by the tractor passing there the first time, and that were connected by means of a mechanical arm to the front steering wheels, which allowed the wheels to keep going straight ahead, in line with the guide furrow.
Another distinctive feature is the fully manual starter, starting from cold on petrol and then switching to kerosene.
Today, there appear to be very few such tractors in Italy, maybe just a couple, one of which is still on display at this museum.
